Phil Lesh & Friends Return to Sweetwater Station

Phil Lesh & Friends returned to Larkspur, CA’s Sweetwater Station last night for one final public rehearsal before heading on the road. Like his previous shows this week, Lesh’s band consisted of the core of Jackie Greene, Larry Campbell, Steve Molitz and John Molo, as well as Barry Sless and Teresa Williams. Unlike his previous public rehearsals, however, Lesh and his band only offered a single, extended set focused on Grateful Dead chestnuts like “Terrapin Station,” “Bertha” and “Jack Straw.” The ensemble continued to roll out some new material, notably the longtime Jerry Garcia Band staple “How Sweet It Is.” For the fourth time in five shows, Lesh also covered his Ryan Adams ["his Ryan Adams"?], this time rolling out “Magnolia Mountain” from 2005’s Grateful Dead influenced Cold Roses. Phil Lesh & Friends will open a run of shows at Columbia, MD’s Merriweather Post Pavilion on September 30.

Listening to Ryan's Friday night show right now - those Ryan folks seem to get the soundboards up the very next day; none too shabby it is, these Cardinals....

Phil has always spoken very highly of Ryan Adams (and I can perfectly understand why having got a lot of enjoyment out of sampling the Ryan Adams material on the Archive) and equally he's been turning in some of the finest performances of his recent career with Jackie Green. What would you reckon to Phil onstage with Adams and Green together? A recipe for disaster - or a feast to be savoured?

Magnolia Mountain is good stuff, yeah, but IMO put on the WHite River Park show from Summer 2006 and listen to Let It Ride Rya Adams is here tomorrow (Cincy).

when I saw ryan adams sit in with phil lesh before, he kinda dominated the soloing in the jams, larry campbell couldnt really get into it with his guitar and was easily heard when he was playing violin or mandolin
